New Federal Grant Alert: School Violence Prevention Funding

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) is now accepting applications for the annual Student, Teachers, and Officers Prevention (STOP) School Violence Program, which provides funding for programs that prevent and reduce violence in K-12 schools.

The federal BJA STOP School Violence Program was created to support strategies that improve school safety. This year’s competitive grant opportunity focuses on:

  • Training for students, teachers, and school staff to recognize and respond to threats
  • Development of school-based threat assessment and intervention teams
  • Implementation of technologies like anonymous reporting tools (hotlines, apps, websites)
  • Other school safety strategies that assist in preventing violence

With 79 expected awards and application deadlines approaching this fall, now is the time for school districts and nonprofits to begin the application development process.

Who is Eligible for BJA STOP Grant Funding?

  • States
  • Localities
  • Federally Recognized Tribal Governments
  • Nonprofits
  • School districts, K-12 schools, and charter schools

Why Should You Apply?

Up to $1 Million in Funding

Eligible school districts, nonprofits, tribal governments, and localities can receive up to $1 million per award. There is no cost-sharing or match requirement, making it accessible to organizations with limited budgets.

Significant Investment for Underfunded School Safety Needs

For many schools, especially those in under-resourced communities, funding for safety and violence prevention is extremely limited. This grant offers school districts and the nonprofits serving them the opportunity to launch or expand safety initiatives that might otherwise be out of reach.

Encourages collaboration between schools, nonprofits, law enforcement, and mental health professionals

This is a powerful opportunity to formalize and strengthen cross-sector partnerships that are essential to effective school safety strategies.

Application Deadlines:

The BJA STOP grant has two deadlines, because application documents are due in separate federal grant systems on different dates:

  • Grants.gov Application Deadline: October 27, 2025, by 11:59 p.m. EST
  • JustGrants Application Deadline: November 3, 2025, by 8:59 p.m. EST

The National Center for School Safety is offering an informational webinar on September 25
