A Grant Opportunity You Can’t Miss: The COPS School Violence Prevention Program

The Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) is accepting applications for its annual School Violence Prevention Program (SVPP), which improves school security through evidence-based safety programs, technology, and equipment. With up to 200 awards expected and funding of up to $500,000 per applicant, this is a high-impact opportunity to invest in the security and well-being of your students and staff.

Who is Eligible for COPS SVPP Funding?

Individual schools that do not operate as their own districts and independent/private schools, including private charter schools, are ineligible to apply.

Why Should You Apply?

Access to Federal Funding for School Safety Enhancements

The SVPP offers up to $500,000 per award (with a 25% local cash match, unless a waiver is granted) to fund improvements in school safety that include:

  • Installation of security equipment or technology (see image of commonly funded projects)
  • Training for law enforcement to better respond to student mental health and violence prevention
  • Other evidence-based initiatives approved by the COPS Office

For rural, tribal, or low-resourced schools, there is also a microgrant track with funding requests up to $100,000 per award and no matching requirement.
