The Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) is accepting applications for its annual School Violence Prevention Program (SVPP), which improves school security through evidence-based safety programs, technology, and equipment. With up to 200 awards expected and funding of up to $500,000 per applicant, this is a high-impact opportunity to invest in the security and well-being of your students and staff.
Who is Eligible for COPS SVPP Funding?
- States
- Units of Local Government
- Indian Tribes
Public Agencies, including:
- School Districts (including public charter schools and single-school districts)
- School Boards
- Law Enforcement Agencies
Individual schools that do not operate as their own districts and independent/private schools, including private charter schools, are ineligible to apply.
Why Should You Apply?
Access to Federal Funding for School Safety Enhancements
The SVPP offers up to $500,000 per award (with a 25% local cash match, unless a waiver is granted) to fund improvements in school safety that include:
- Installation of security equipment or technology (see image of commonly funded projects)
- Training for law enforcement to better respond to student mental health and violence prevention
- Other evidence-based initiatives approved by the COPS Office
For rural, tribal, or low-resourced schools, there is also a microgrant track with funding requests up to $100,000 per award and no matching requirement.
