EPA Brownfields Program Provides Federally Funded Grants for Community Cleanup Projects.

EPA Brownfields Grants will provide millions of dollars in federal funding to address properties contaminated with hazardous substances or petroleum. Remediating contaminated sites is a required first step before properties can be reused; these grants will help fund assessments, planning, and/or clean-up.

The goal is to revitalize communities and create economic opportunities by transforming contaminated sites into safe, usable spaces.

EPA Brownfields Grants applications are due on January 28, 2026. The EPA grant program has no matching requirements.

What's the Difference?

Cleanup Grants

For organizations that own and want to remediate contaminated land at one or more sites.

Multipurpose Grants

These cooperative agreements allow more flexibility and may be used for assessment, cleanup, and planning. The lead applicant must own the property.

Assessment Grants

For evaluating brownfields and planning reuse, not cleanup. Coalition grants involve 2-4 partners and must target at least three municipalities. Community-wide grants focus on a single community.
