As a Managing Director of Grants & Federal Affairs in the Higher Education practice, Alexis works with clients to identify federal, state, and foundation grant opportunities, guides faculty and staff through the proposal development process, and delivers competitive proposals in collaboration with a team of grant writing professionals and content experts. Over the last 17 years, Alexis has helped nonprofits and institutions of higher education win more than $50 million in grant awards from government, foundation, and corporate grantors. Recent examples include multi-million dollar awards from the U.S. Department of Education Title III Strengthening Institutions Program and the Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) – STEM program; Health Resources and Services Administration’s Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training (BHWET), Nursing Workforce Diversity (NWD), and Nurse Education, Practice, Quality, and Retention (NEPQR) – Mobile Health programs; and the Department of Commerce National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s Connecting Minority Communities Pilot Program, among others.
Prior to joining McAllister & Quinn on staff as a Director, Alexis was part of McAllister & Quinn’s grant writer network. For seven years, she collaborated with McAllister & Quinn directors and clients to write and review competitive proposals, a large number of which resulted in funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), National Endowment of the Humanities (NEH), Department of Justice (DOJ), Davis Educational Foundation, Mabee Foundation, and other grantors. Some of these awards were “firsts” and proved transformational for M&Q’s client institutions. Formerly, Alexis served as Assistant Director of Foundation Relations for St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas. She began her grants career writing proposals for performing arts non-profits and later serving as Grants Manager for Communities in Schools of Central Texas. Alexis holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in English from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
