On May 20th, The President unveiled his plan for a multi-layered missile defense system in an oval office briefing attended by Defense Secretary Hegseth and the appointed head of Golden Dome efforts, General Michael Guetlein.
The multi-tiered approach would rely on the entire technology and defense industry spectrum from traditional ground-based missile systems to space-based sensors and interceptors. This open architecture platform would require collaboration among established defense contractors, along with new innovators. The envisioned system would cost roughly $175 billion total; with an initial investment of $25 billion included in the reconciliation funding package.
Next Steps for Golden Dome Funding
President Trump’s afternoon announcement follows an earlier meeting with congressional Republicans where he urged holdouts to fall in line behind the entire funding package. While final funding numbers are subject to congressional appropriations, the President’s defense proposals remain relatively uncontroversial among Republicans and will likely survive changes to the bill.
The Pentagon is sparing no time in laying the groundwork for the President’s agenda – multiple funding opportunities are published and forecasted to prepare for the increase in naval shipbuilding and missile defense activities. McAllister & Quinn can match your technology to DOD funding streams and position your organization to leverage these opportunities.
President Trump’s $150 Billion Budget Request
President Trump’s $25 billion Golden Dome aligns with the White House’s $150 billion defense budget request for fiscal year 2026, which includes new funding for munitions, space systems, domestic shipbuilding, and industrial base investments.
