Alec Simantov, Director

Alec Simantov joined McAllister & Quinn in February 2022 and currently serves as Director within the Research Universities Practice. In this role, Alec leverages expertise in the federal budget and Congress to provide strategic oversight on science, technology, and higher education policy and federal funding. Alec also co-leads internal content and knowledge management initiatives, driving practice growth and advancing strategic intelligence capabilities.

With over 15 years of experience in Washington, DC, Alec has delivered policy analysis, legislative, and regulatory tracking for nonprofit and private-sector clients across a broad range of issues, including energy and environment, trade, tax, and financial services. Alec currently publishes the Weekly Washington Update and Quarterly Washington Update, providing clients with timely insights on legislative developments and agency policy changes impacting research universities.

Alec holds a Master of Public Policy (MPP) from George Mason University’s Schar School of Policy and Government and earned dual B.A. degrees in History and Linguistics from the University of Maryland, College Park.  He is a member of the Association for Public Policy Analysis & Management and the American Association of Budget and Program Analysts. In his free time, you can find him at the Art League in Alexandria, VA, where he works primarily in charcoal (drawing) and is currently expanding into acrylic (painting).
