Dr. Karen Rosenthall provides grantsmanship, technical, and strategic advice to higher education and healthcare clients. She is adept at working with institutional leaders and subject matter experts to assess existing capacities and future priorities, connecting those goals with the missions of external stakeholders. In addition, she is skilled in project management and guiding individuals and large teams through all phases of the proposal development process.
Prior to joining McAllister & Quinn, Karen worked in research and proposal development at higher education institutions. She served as an Associate Research Development Specialist and a Proposal Development Consultant at Indiana University (2019-2022). There, Karen dedicated time to capacity building and training programs for STEM and Humanities researchers, along with providing direct support to PIs and teams with proposals to NSF, NIH, NEH, other federal agencies, and private foundations. She directly supported a research center with their pre-award proposal needs. She worked across disciplines and tailored her approach according to need. Karen began her career in research development and Rice University (2012-2016) and the University of Chicago (2016-2019), where she provided writing instruction and pre-award coaching and review to graduate students and postdoctoral scholars applying for federal and private research funding. She also managed post-award processes for federal grants.
