The McAllister & Quinn nonprofit team recently assisted the National Aquarium in obtaining a prestigious Institute of Museum and Library Services Museums for America grant. The award, which totals $150,000, will be used to implement the Aquarium’s experiential after-school learning program at select Baltimore City public middle schools. The program aims to address the area’s lack of science/STEM educational opportunities, lack of information about STEM career pathways, and the need to conserve aquatic resources. Students will gain exposure to science in a structured way through hands-on activities guided by the program curriculum and field trips. They also will learn about STEM career pathways by interacting with near-peer mentors and aquarium staff and engage directly in the conservation of local aquatic environments through activities and field trips.
