WASHINGTON, D.C. Former Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Assistant Secretary Chani W. Wiggins today launched Winn Strategies, LLC (www.winnstrategies.net) to provide results-driven advocacy on issues before the federal government. Winn Strategies has also signed a partnership agreement with the Washington, D.C.-based firm McAllister & Quinn (www.jm-aq.com) to work on a broad range of homeland security issues.
“Winn Strategies and my alliance with McAllister & Quinn will allow me to use my experience and know-how to develop effective, strategic solutions on various issues and challenges in Washington,” said Wiggins, who specializes in national security, energy, technology, and communications policy.
Wiggins spent 11 years in the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives with stints as senior policy staff for Senators Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Claire McCaskill (D-MO), former Congressman Bart Stupak (D-MI) and former Senator Mark Dayton (D-MN). She most recently served as the Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs at the Department of Homeland Security in the Obama Administration, where she led the Department’s response to Congress during the Gulf Oil Spill crisis and the 2009 Christmas Day attempted airplane bombing. She left DHS in late 2010 to join The Joseph Group, a D.C. where she worked with clients on cybersecurity, energy and telecommunications issues.
Throughout her tenure in Congress and in the Administration, Wiggins was known for building relationships on both sides of the political aisle. Part of that effort resulted in her co-founding the Bipartisan Legislative Directors Group in 2007 to find common ground and open new channels of communication among the Senate’s 100 legislative directors. The group continues to exist today.
Wiggins currently serves as a strategic advisor for the Government & Technology Services Coalition (www.gtscoalition.com), an organization of small and mid-sized company CEOs that develop and implement solutions for the federal homeland and national security sector. She is a 1992 graduate of the University of Florida and spent several years as a reporter covering local government for newspapers in Florida and Georgia before her current career in government and politics.
